Volunteer Internship Program

This is a chance for high school students to try something new and gain job experience.

Every year AVEF organizes a number of summer work opportunities for students currently enrolled in 8th through 11th grades. Local businesses and individuals who agree to mentor a student supply volunteer work descriptions for their specific needs. The current volunteer descriptions for summer 2011 are available on this website and in a binder in the high school library.

Students must submit applications for the opsitions they are interested in. An application form is available on this website or in the school library. Applications must be given to the school librarian before the deadline date May 2nd 2011.

Students must interview for the internship (s) they apply for. Students will be informed about the date and time of their interview(s). Usually interviews take place in a classroom after school hours.
Interviews begin May 9th and end May 20th 2011.

The length of committment to a volunteer internship is either 40 or 80 hours. The mentor decides the length of the internship.

Before applying for an internship, students should discuss this work opportunity with parents or guardians. During the interview students will be asked if they have a realistic plan for transportation to and from work.  If you are under 18 your parent or gueardian must sign a form acknoledging that you have a job.

This is a competitive process. Many jobs have three or more applicants. If you are serious about interviewing for an internship students may want to consider practicing an interview scenario with a teacher or adult friend. AVEF has a video made by AV film studies students that gives internship applicants tips for interviewing. The video is available on this site.
