About the Counseling Department

As the school counselor, I oversee students' schedules and progress and coordinate the school's master schedule, I see students when they need someone to talk to, and I am here for parents and teachers, as well, when they have concerns.

I grew up in a small town in northern New Jersey, not far from NYC, and I went to college at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where I majored in Psychology and minored in English. I worked for a few years at Connecticut's state psychiatric hospital, and then in 1984 I moved to California, attended San Francisco State, and earned my teaching credential. I taught English in the city (middle and high school), and traveled to Asia to teach in Japan and Taiwan. Then I returned to school for my Master's degree in Educational Counseling and became the counselor at San Francisco's Chinese American International School.  I moved to Anderson Valley in 2008 and started working for the Adult School. I remain active there and still oversee the GED and Distance Learning programs. Over the years, I've also enjoyed a part-time freelance career as a journalist, writing for a variety of magazines-a sideline I continue to pursue during my non-counseling hours.
